Stomachs are churning among Chinese beer lovers after a worker was caught peeing into a tank of ingredients at the nation’s Tsingtao beer factory in a disgusting video.

The clip, which went viral last Thursday on China’s microblogging site Weibo, shows a man in a uniform and a hard hat clambering into a container believed to hold raw ingredients for the beer and urinating inside.

Tsingtao Brewery, China’s second-largest beer producer, released a statement saying it was looking into the stomach-turning video, which was filmed at its plant in the city of Pingdu.

“Our company attaches high importance to the relevant video that emerged from Tsingtao Brewery No. 3 on October 19,” the beer manufacturer stated, reported the South China Morning Post. “We reported the incident to the police at the earliest opportunity, and public security agencies are involved in the investigation.”

A video that was shared on China’s Weibo microblogging site appeared to show a worker urinating inside a container of ingredients at a factory operated by Tsingtao Brewery.
The footage, which has been viewed tens of millions of times, was taken at factory No. 3 in the city of Pingdu.

The statement from Tsingtao assured its customers that the batch of ingredients from its facility in Pingdu had been sealed.

“Our company continues to increase management efforts to ensure product quality, and welcomes consumer supervision,” the manufacturer stated.

The Pingdu Market Authority said Friday that it swiftly put together a team and conducted an investigation at the site featured in the viral video.

Both the worker seen in the video and the person who filmed it have reportedly been detained by the police.
The beer maker said the batch of ingredients at the Pingdu plant had been sealed.

“Once verified, we will handle this seriously in accordance with the law and regulations,” the agency warned.

Both the man who appeared to urinate in the video and the person who filmed it have been detained by the police, reported the state-owned outlet National Business Daily.

The outlet also said, citing an internal source familiar with the matter, that the duo were not direct employees of Tsingtao but rather external hires.

The urination video has left outraged social media users frothing at the mouth — with some internet wits using the opportunity to poke fun at the quality of the local brew.

“I’ve always said the beer here is like horse pee,” one commenter quipped. “Turns out I was wrong.”
